Dab Torch Options Come Down to Butane vs. Propane
When it comes to dabbing, there are various components that will lead to having the best experience for you. For instance, there’s the matter of what kind of nail to use. Deciding between titanium, quartz or ceramic is the first decision to make and then you will need a dab torch to light that nail. There are such a large number of torches to choose from that it helps to have a bit of an understanding about each type before making your purchase. In order to make this choice, you need to first understand the pros and cons of using a butane dab torch versus a propane one.
Butane Torches Burn Clean but Slow
Butane torches burn cleaner and produce less carbon monoxide than propane torches. They come in sizes that make them very portable, allowing you to carry them around with you while on the go. You can also count on a butane torch to be usable no matter what kind of nail you have since it won’t burn as hot as a propane torch. But this is also a downside of butane torches since it can make them a little slower to use. It can also be more difficult to find refills for them. And lastly they’re not as usable in extreme weather conditions meaning they aren’t reliable in extreme cold or extreme heat.
Propane Torches Burn Hot but Dirty
On the other hand, propane stores much better in all kinds of temperatures making it a more reliable choice for using in extreme weather conditions. Propane torches burn so hot (1000 degrees) that they can be used very quickly for when you are in a hurry. It’s also very easy to find refills for these torches. On the downside, they do produce a dirtier burn that produces carbon monoxide. Another important factor to consider is that they burn so hot that they can only be used on titanium nails. That could be a major factor to consider before buying a dab torch that could potentially destroy your nail.
My Favorite Dab Torch
If you’re looking for a good butane dab torch, then I recommend the GT8000 Big Shot Butane Dab Torch. I love this torch and after using a few different kinds, I believe this one is the best. This torch is sturdy, measures about 8 inches tall, has an adjustable flame that you can lock and doesn’t make a bunch of awful noise when you use it. I love this torch for that reason as it’s much more relaxing for me to fade out without the annoying sounds. Handling this torch is pretty easy and it can even stand up on its own. You can get a lot of use out of one of these before there’s any need to refill. It’s not hard to find refills either which is another plus.
The Best Propane Torch Option
If you’re looking for a propane torch, I recommend the Bernzomatic TS8000 High Intensity Torch. This is a much bigger torch, about 18 inches tall. It’s very sturdy and reliable with an adjustable flame that can be locked. Refills are very easy to get for a propane torch and you can get a lot of use out of one refill. Best of all, for what you get, it’s extremely affordable.
The kind of dab torch you use can really affect your dabbing experience, so it’s worth taking your time to explore and choose which one might be best for you. Get to know your dabbing style and then, armed with this knowledge, picking out the best dab torch should be a no-brainer.
